Laura Guerra, RN, CCRC
Research Department Manager
Laura Guerra is the Research Department Manager and is responsible for the implementation, management, and support of the conduct of investigational projects at Oncology Consultants, a community-based practice of physicians committed to providing state of the art cancer treatment and to make an impact against cancer by being on the front-line of drug development.
Laura Guerra brings more than 30 years of experience in the field of nursing, clinical research and clinical research management. As one of the first research nurses at the University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center, she witnessed firsthand the expanding role of nurses in oncology research and helped to formally develop the role of the research nurse. Laura authored or contributed to more than 60 publications.
During Laura Guerra’s tenure at US Oncology Research, LCC | McKesson Specialty Health, she implemented the network’s Translational Oncology Program, which evolved into a formal program where pharma initiated approximately 20 plus early phase trials on an annual basis and led enrollment to more than 1400 patients within five years. As co-founder and Chief Clinical Officer of Clinical Oncology Research Excellence, Laura Guerra provided leadership and expertise to CORE’s clinical research operations. She worked directly with practices, clinical staff, and pharma/CROs to ensure that study objectives are aligned with clinic logistics and was responsible for developing clinical research strategies to ensure trial performance.
Laura Guerra earned her nursing degree at Galveston College and completed her practicum at The University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas. She also attended the Texas Women’s University and is a member of the Oncology Nursing Society, the American Society of Clinical Oncology and the Association of Clinical Research Professionals.
